Outline In November 2003, Roadtechs were asked to inspect a number of Manholes in the Cornwall area that were in the wheel track area and having been repaired unsuccessfully a number of times, it was felt that a new approach was needed. The inspection that was subsequently carried out, revealed that the brickwork used to construct the shaft had deteriorated and that this was the major cause for the failure. Roadtechs proposed that an innovative repair system called Readyraise be used. Having tried and tested this system in many heavily trafficked sites such as the M25, A20 and A14, Roadtechs were confident that this would solve the reoccurring problem. The Problem

Studies carried out, have discovered that 85% of manhole failures can be attributed to the top two courses of brickwork, directly under the ironwork. Poorly mixed mortar and inadequate curing times often contribute to the problem and even the design of the Ironwork. The solution

On this occasion, this occasion, the brickwork was removed to expose the cover-slab or sound brickwork ready for the installation of the repair/reinstatement system.

The unique modular system was installed to the correct level, ensuring that the finished height of the ironwork matched the same level as the surrounding road surface.

The final finishing layers of Techcrete were applied to the surround, bringing the repair back to surface level.

The final layer is dressed with a high PSV aggregate to provide skid resistance and camouflage the repair

Repairs in wheel track areas and on bends, often suffer multiple failures. A combination of poor construction and curing time contribute to the problem. The repair system ensures that lateral forces are contained within the system and the unique flexible bedding compound adsorbs vibration and flexing.
